Advocacy in Action

Big Country County Medical Society Alliance (BCCMSA) was established in 1917, and later reorganized by Mrs. Joseph Daly. It has survived 100+ years due to a dedicated group of physicians and spouses. Membership is supported by a diverse group of colleagues and volunteers. BCCMSA strives to serve members with fun social events, connect with the community, develop leadership skills, and provide support in times of need. It has served Abilene area children & the community with various charitable activities over the years.

BCCMSA has continually supported TMA state initiatives of Hard Hats for Little Heads and Be Wise - Immunize for over 18 years, with the recent addition of a Walk With a Doc program. Additionally, membership has supported local causes such as The High School Food Pantry and Operation Cover-up, a program providing winter jackets to area school children in need.

Fully-deductible charitable donations from fundraising events like Murder Mystery Dinner and No Go Gala provide funding for charitable endeavors. BCCMSA also runs a Holiday Sharing Card project to bring in funding for a medical student scholarship. The Big Country County Medical Society Alliance Scholarship Fund was established in the early 1970s, with the purpose of encouraging students in the Big Country region to pursue careers as physicians.

BCCMSA also participates in First Tuesdays at the Capitol and encourages Alliance members, physicians, medical students, and residents to attend in Austin each legislative session.
