TMA Alliance Giving Back

Through the generosity of the TMA Alliance, members of the Family of Medicine receive needed financial assistance. Whether starting on the path to a medical career or facing a financial emergency, medical students, physician families, and TMAA resident physician families members can receive support.

TMA Alliance Family

The Resident Emergency Fund provides up to $1,000 to support alliance members who are under financial strain during their years of residency training. Funds, available to any TMAA resident physician or resident spouse/partner, can be used for emergency situations and necessities, such as unexpected car repairs or medical expenses.

The TMAA Finance Committee reviews requests for emergency funds. If approved, checks will be mailed within a month. Recipients are asked to submit a receipt or other verification to show how the money was used.

Scholarships for Health Care Professions

Local alliances help support the future of medicine by giving thousands of dollars annually in scholarships to future physicians and to students pursuing careers in nursing or other allied health professions. Take a look at scholarships around the state.

Through the TMAF Family of Funds, local alliances can receive matching funds to support their medical student scholarships of up to $5,000. The deadline to apply for a matching scholarship is March 31 through the TMAF Medical Student Scholarship and Grant Trust Fund of Dr. Roberto J. and Agniela (Annie) M. Bayardo and the TMAF Hispanic Medical Students Scholarship Fund of Dr. Roberto J. and Agniela (Annie) M. Bayardo.

TMA's Physicians Benevolent Fund

The Physicians Benevolent Fund (PBF) provides financial assistance to Texas physicians and their families in times of personal hardship. Since 1961, the fund has helped physicians who have faced a life-changing event or illness that ended their medical career, who have become widowed and were left to raise their family alone, and who are elderly and have run through their savings for dementia-related or other long-term care.

Alliance members and their families support the funds financially and through confidential referrals of physician families that may benefit from assistance. TMA Alliance makes an annual contribution to PBF. Individual donations can be made online or by check (payable to The Physicians Benevolent Fund). Mail contributions to: TMA Finance Department, 401 W. 15th St., Ste. 100, Austin, TX 78701.
