TMAA President’s Message

I cannot believe that ALLMED has come and went. It seemed like we have been working on it for a year. I think everyone who attended enjoyed their time together as a group once again. It was a fun-filled weekend that included mix and mingles, dine-a-rounds, fantastic keynote speakers (one being our very own alliance member, Lori Boies, PhD), an Awards celebration and luncheon (read more about the award winners below), scavenger hunt, receptions, and the Texas Medical Foundation, “Crossroads of Culture” Gala. The funds raised during the event go toward funding the TMA community outreach projects that we support locally. The President’s Installation and new TMAA Board Get Connected Luncheon wrapped up the weekend celebrations.

I know it seems outrageous, but I enjoyed just getting hug by my friends that I haven’t seen in person in three years. So much has happened in that amount of time, but we picked up right where we left off asking about family and life events. We enjoyed just getting to interact with each other.

ALLMED was an infusion of enjoyment that I needed. It has been a while since I have laughed so hard that I cried, but I did in Houston. If you didn’t get a chance to go this year, mark your calendars for next year’s ALLMED which will be held in Fort Worth May 18-20.

The theme for my president’s year is “Welcome Back Alliance members!” We want you, we need you and we can’t make the impact in our community and state without you.

Now is the time to get back to serving our members and our community. We need to interact and reconnect with our members, especially those we haven’t seen in a while. Let’s build our alliance community back up with the human interaction we all crave. We need that group of people who understands the life of a medical family, who we are, and what we go through.

I encourage you to pick up the phone and call those members who haven’t renewed their membership in a while, ask them why, and ask them to come back. Plan some engaging speakers or events. Did you know that the TMAA website has loads of resources to help your alliance? There are membership incentives ($$$) and even a membership tool kit. If you don’t find the information you are looking for, then email me and I will help you find what you need. We are here for each other.

I look forward to visiting with you in your community at one of your events soon.

Libby

ALLMED

ALLMED kicked off with the TMA Alliance’s Annual Business Meeting Thursday, April 28. Jennifer Lewis, TMA president for 2021-22 led the alliance through a well-organized and productive meeting. Highlights included a history of First Tuesdays at the Capitol given by Susan Todd from Tarrant County, who founded the event in 2003. The meeting also included reports from Ms. Lewis and TMAA vice presidents.

Participants elected members of the 2022-23 Nominating Committee. They are:

Lori Boies, Bexar County
Lori Urso, Tarrant County
Martha Howell, Bell County
Jenny Shepherd, Bexar County

Congratulations!

After the Annual Business Meeting, members had a chance to mix and mingle in the TMAA President’s Suite. The following day, Alliance members were treated to uplifting speeches from Robert J. Wicks, PsyD and our very own Lori Boies, PhD. Members enjoyed an engaging and entertaining scavenger hunt later in the day. On Saturday, members of the new TMAA 2022-23 Board of Directors had a chance to meet and get acquainted during their "Get Connected" luncheon.

TMAF Thanks TMAA for Gala Success!

The 29th annual gala Crossroads of Culture that occurred during 2022 TexMed and AllMed in Houston successfully raised an estimated total of more than $400,000 to support TMA’s philanthropic arm and the critically needed public health and prevention programs it funds thanks to TMA Alliance chapter contributions to the auction, members who purchased tickets and table sponsorship, volunteer assistance, and more!

County Alliance Roundup

Wichita Falls Splash Pad

The Wichita County Medical Alliance (WCMA) held the grand opening of its Splash Pad. This project was the culmination of three years of planning and hard work. It’s located in Hamilton Park next to the playground at Dr.’s Park, completed in 2018. WCMA President Whitney Flack cut the ribbon at the Splash Pad’s opening ceremony, along with city officials and other WCMA officers. Their efforts were recognized at ALLMED, where WCMA received the President’s Award in Houston.

Smith County Young and New Member Outreach Luncheon

The Smith County Medical Society Alliance hosted a casual luncheon at the beautiful home of Amy Pemberton Friday, April 22. This gathering included around 15 to 20 current and hopeful members. They showed a lot of interest in the future of the county alliance.
